How to Care for Fashion Jewellery & Keep It Looking Beautiful

Store each piece with space

Keep jewellery in a dry drawer, box or pouch away from direct sunlight. Separate pieces where possible: chains can knot together, earrings can scratch nearby surfaces, and embellished pieces may catch on one another.

Use the box or pouch supplied with a piece when available. Small fabric pouches, divided trays and individual compartments also work well. Fasten chains before storing them and lay them flat or hang them from separate hooks.

Put jewellery on last

Perfume, hairspray, moisturiser and makeup are best applied before jewellery. Allow products to dry, then add your accessories as the final step. This reduces direct contact with moisture, oils and sprays.

When getting changed, remove jewellery first. This helps prevent clasps, chains and settings from catching on necklines, embroidery or loose threads.

Keep it away from moisture

Remove fashion jewellery before bathing, swimming, exercising or doing household cleaning. If a piece becomes damp, gently pat it dry with a clean, soft cloth before putting it away.

Avoid storing jewellery in a bathroom, where steam and changing humidity are common. A bedroom drawer or wardrobe shelf is usually a better choice.

Clean gently

After wearing, wipe the piece lightly with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive cloths, hard brushes, soaking and household cleaners unless the product page gives specific care instructions.

For detailed pieces, use a gentle touch rather than pressure. If dirt is lodged around a setting or join and does not lift easily, stop rather than forcing it.
